UV Protection
1, Skin Cancer (Basal cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma and Melanoma) is the most common form of cancers in many countries including Australia, Canada, UK and US; Do you know that in:
- Australia: Skin cancers account for over 80% of all new cancers diagnosed each year; – The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare;
- Canada: It is estimated that there will be 73,000 new Non-melanoma cases and 4,600 new melanoma cases in 2008; – Canadian Cancer Society
- US: More than one million skin cancers are diagnosed annually and the incidence of melanoma is increasing faster than that of almost any other cancer; – SEER Cancer Statistics
2, Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation is the leading cause for all kinds of Skin Cancers (Melanoma and Non-melanoma) and Skin Photoaging (wrinkles, leathery skin, dark spots, etc.);
3, Worldwide some 12 to 15 million people become blind from cataracts annually, of which up to 20% may be caused or enhanced by sun exposure according to WHO estimates;
4, The immune system is vulnerable to modification by environmental agents such as UV radiation, which appears to diminish the effectiveness of the immune system by changing the activity and distribution of the cells responsible for triggering immune responses.
……
The list can last much much longer, but you got an idea why UV protection is necessary, and the important thing is: UV protection really makes difference!
